For those that don't Twitter, Russ mentioned that this was actually a mistake.
But at some point I was like, Ok, these are the rules, what can I do with them? So I went about almost killing a lot of mechs, and hilarity ensued.
For one you had to damage them super bad, because oddly enough, NOT killing them leads to a lot of NOT winning, and only wins counted. So LRM's were a must, even if it was just a 10, so that you could tap a guy across the way. I did take out some energy/ballistic mechs for change up, but never got higher than 8 or 9 assists.
My favorite moments were these:
I was in my DDC, and had a Hunchback chase one of our lights right into me, and a few AC20's hits later he was stripped, but the light had run off. Well, I'm not going to kill this guy, that's for sure, so I'm shooting what LRM's I have back across River City as we are now up 8 to 6 or some such, so I need to record the assists before the end of the match. But this Hunchie keeps stepping in my way! I'm trying to move and shoot around him and he's like, "NO, Kill me you MONSTER!". Eventually some one else came by and did the deed, but it was hilarious trying to maneuver around him to shoot at literally anything else.
I had one match in my Pretty Baby where I was wounding everything but no one would kill anything. Finally I said screw it and got 4 kills in a row by doing minimal damage. Any other day would have loved the match, but not this day.
My fav was when I was again in my DDC, we were up late Like 7to 3 or something, but I got too agressive on the last couple as was about to go down. But just before I did, the last mech that I hadn't seen all game came into view, and with my last medium laser remaining, I fired and saw my crosshair turn red, then I died. It was beautiful, it was poetic. And if PGI hadn't screwed this up, it wouldn't have meant anything. It was probably my best scoring match with 1 kills, 11 assists and 1040 damage.
So anyways, there's my silver linings for a cloudy (lrm cloudy that is) tournament.
